Action Urged on Proposed GIPSA Rules

In September, UPGA filed official comments with USDA regarding proposed new Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) regulations published at 72 Federal Register 41952-56 (August 1, 2007). The proposed rules for Poultry Contracts; Initiation, Performance and Termination would put new requirements on poultry companies relative to these issues. The proposed changes address the need for growers to have complete information for making business decisions, the long term risks facing growers, the imbalance of information and market power, and the lack of transparency in the entire process. UPGA encourages its members to examine these proposed rules and make appropriate comments. See the enclosed information on the proposed rules.
